Pregnancy Rates Unaffected By Single Thawed Embryo Transfer After PGD
Transferring just one embryo at a time to a woman"s womb after embryos have undergone preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and freezing at the blastocyst stage has become a real option after researchers achieved pregnancy rates that were as good as those for blastocysts that had not had a cell removed for PGD before freezing. Their results mean that it will be possible to reduce the number of multiple pregnancies after PGD and the consequent complications associated with these pregnancies.

A New Government-Run Plan Would Impose Significant Financial Losses On California Hospitals
Many California hospitals would face substantial net losses if there were a large scale shift of individuals with private coverage to a government-run plan that reimburses providers at Medicare rates or Medicare rates plus 10 percent, according to a new hospital-by-hospital analysis released today by America"s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), based on data from California"s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD).

Spine-shaped Gold Protrusions Improve The Adherence And Electrical Coupling Of Neurons With The Surface Of Micro-electronic Devices

Interfacing neurons with micro- and nano-electronic devices has been a subject of intense studies over the last decade and is used both in basic research and medical applications. The electronic devices used in such neuroelectronic hybrids are mainly planar metal electrodes and planar transistors. In this research a novel approach is presented, demonstrating the use of protruding micrometer scale spine-shaped gold electrodes. The gold spines were coated with a molecule promoting the engulfment of the electrode. The interface between the neuron and the electrode is shown by way of electron microscopy and high electrical coupling between the neuron and the electronic device.
